Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., said that New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s latest redistricting plan is “a complete joke.”
Speaking on a recent broadcast, Malliotakis stated that an election plan cannot be taken seriously when it is being drawn up by individuals who allow noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections. She criticized the state for permitting noncitizens to obtain driver’s licenses, which she said automatically enable them to register to vote.
Malliotakis described New York as a haven for improper voting practices, noting that the state has passed legislation hindering election integrity and implemented same-day voter registration where individuals can show up at polling sites without being vetted for residency or citizenship.
The representative revealed that Hochul has attempted to gerrymander her district for three consecutive terms. “Every two years, we have a legal battle with her because they’re trying to redistrict this seat to tilt the scale and give Democrats an advantage,” Malliotakis said. She pledged to fight back against the new redistricting effort, stating, “We’re going to fight these attempts again. We always anticipated they’d come back in 2028 because they’ve tried this every two years. We will fight them again, and we will win.”
Malliotakis added that New York has become a focal point for nationwide redistricting disputes, claiming the state’s Democratic leadership started the battle six years ago—“It did not begin this year with President Donald Trump.” She also suggested using artificial intelligence to create fairer congressional districts: “We could see if we can somehow make these districts as competitive as possible, so voters have the true say and better ability to hold their elected officials accountable.”
