Angel Families Thank Trump for Border Security — but Failed to Demand Mass Deportations

There is an NGO on our side called the American Border Story (TABS) that advocates for closing the border. That battle has been largely won under the Trump administration.

TABS recently released a congratulatory video featuring Angel Families — citizens who have lost loved ones to crimes tied to the border crisis — expressing gratitude to President Trump for his tough stance on immigration enforcement.

One example in the video is Joe Abraham, whose daughter Katie was killed in a drunken-driving accident caused by an illegal immigrant. Abraham thanked the president for prioritizing border security and “keeping our community safe.”

“We hope you continue this dedication,” he said. “We really don’t want any other families to have to suffer the pain and despair that we’re going through right now. So keep it up, and we appreciate you,” he added in a message posted for Thanksgiving.

Another example is Agnes Gibboney, whose son Ronald Da Silva was murdered by an illegal immigrant in California in 2002. Gibboney thanked Trump for his “courage, strength, determination, and love for our country.”

“Thank you and your administration for securing our borders and deporting criminal illegal aliens and for keeping Americans safe,” Gibboney said.

However, the Angel Families missed a critical opportunity. The children of these families were not killed by illegal immigrants while they crossed the border. Nor were the perpetrators necessarily “criminal” prior to committing their crimes. The illegal immigrants who murdered their children were inside the country, past the border. Therefore, the solution to preventing future crimes by all classes of illegal immigrants is mass deportations — a promise made by President Trump.

These Angel Families could have also urged the president to deliver on his pledge for mass deportations and thanked ICE as well.

As we’ve previously noted, America First means putting Americans first. This requires expelling all illegal foreigners. The current media landscape is filled with sob stories about immigrants, but the Angel Families offer a different perspective that could have been more impactful.

We also believe the Angel Families should be front and center in the upcoming midterm campaign by Republicans. They personify the Democratic Party’s preference for illegal immigrants over Americans. The fact that Republicans have not made this issue the foundation of the midterm campaign raises questions about whether the GOP represents Americans or its labor donors.
