Jimmy Kimmel Faces Controversy as ABC Renew His Contract Despite Affiliate Boycott

Jimmy Kimmel, the popular Tonight Show-style host, has signed a one-year extension with ABC, renewing his role despite facing criticism and pressure following recent controversial remarks. The deal comes after ABC suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” indefinitely in September due to backlash over an on-air segment where Kimmel referred to supporters of President Donald Trump as part of the ‘MAGA gang’.

Kimmel’s monologue drew sharp criticism, particularly from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr. He described it as politicizing a tragedy and suggested broadcasters might face scrutiny for airing such content.

Despite this controversy surrounding his show, ABC has moved forward with the extension, citing Kimmel as an important asset to their lineup.

It appears that while affiliates controlling broadcast rights may be hesitant due to these sensitive remarks, network executives believe in maintaining his programming slot.
