Rep. Haridopolos Calls for Reforms to ACA Subsidies

Rep. Mike Haridopolos, R-Fla., voiced strong criticism of the current subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), arguing they should not continue without necessary changes to curb abuse and reduce costs. Speaking on “Wake Up America,” Haridopolos stated that Congress must tighten eligibility standards for these subsidies.

He emphasized the importance of verifying who qualifies for the assistance, stating that many individuals falsely claim benefits and remain eligible despite not meeting criteria. Additionally, he noted that half of the people receiving ACA subsidies pay no premiums, contributing to financial strain without proper accountability. Haridopolos called it a “broken system” and stressed that lawmakers should not simply extend the program as is.

On another matter, Haridopolos also discussed the ongoing investigation into the Jan. 6 incident involving Brian Cole Jr., who was arrested in connection with pipe bombs placed outside the headquarters of both major political parties ahead of the January 6th Capitol protest. He criticized what he perceived as a slow or inadequate response by certain entities involved and called for decisive action to address such threats.
