U.S. Sen. John Cornyn praised President Donald Trump’s efforts to combat drug trafficking, specifically highlighting his administration’s actions against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his alleged ties to drug networks there.
In a Wednesday interview on “National Report,” Cornyn expressed gratitude for Trump’s decisive stance on the ongoing drug crisis threatening American lives. He stated unequivocally, “I’m thankful that President Trump finally stepped up and did something about a problem that has resulted in the death of tens of thousands of Americans over recent years.”
Cornyn emphasized that this effort is not limited to fentanyl alone but encompasses cocaine, heroin, and other illicit substances entering the country. He dismissed critics who oppose these measures as merely wanting change for its own sake without offering meaningful solutions.
“I think he saved lives in the process,” said Cornyn, adding, “This is clearly within the president’s authority.”
The senator also criticized Democrats for attempting to divert attention from Maduro’s administration being a narco-state linked with Iran and Hezbollah. He stressed that support or opposition should be based solely on whether individuals care about protecting American lives.
Cornyn confirmed that Congress would not likely act due to “Trump derangement syndrome,” noting, “It’s unlikely… that they are going to step up.”
Furthermore, Cornyn mentioned Trump signing legislation he sponsored aimed at improving counter-drug efforts as part of the president’s ongoing strategy against deadly drug threats from Venezuela.
