He avoided labeling himself as part of the MAGA movement, instead referencing the “New Jersey movement.” Sherrill challenged Ciattarelli’s alignment with Trump, noting the president had described him as “100% MAGA” and criticized his loyalty to Trump over New Jersey residents.
The candidates also clashed over government funding, with Ciattarelli criticizing Sherrill for opposing a spending bill during Trump’s presidency, while Sherrill urged Republicans to prioritize reopening the government given their control of Congress and the White House.
