President Donald Trump criticized Fox News on Truth Social Wednesday over its coverage of the California gubernatorial race, stating that the network was promoting “SLEAZEBAG” Tom Steyer while neglecting Republican candidates.
In a post, Trump questioned why Fox News was highlighting Tom Steyer — whose prominence surged after Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell abruptly dropped out of Congress due to multiple sexual assault allegations — instead of focusing on Republicans like Steve Hilton.
Trump wrote: “How can a Republican expect to win that State, with their Mail In Voting and Rigged Elections, when you have FoxNews promoting the Democrats?”
The president added: “Nobody cares about Tom Steyer, he is a LOSER, but Fox is making it possible for a guy like this to win.” He urged California voters to support Steve Hilton: “VOTE FOR STEVE HILTON, AND TURN CALIFORNIA AROUND! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Polling expert Patrick Allocco noted on Monday that Swalwell’s exit had reshaped the race. “It blows the race wide open,” Allocco said.
California uses a jungle primary system where the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, advance to the general election. Allocco explained: “Swalwell’s exit doesn’t just hurt one Democrat. It increases the odds that the Democrats keep splitting their vote while Republicans stay consolidated.”
“That’s the danger for the Dems,” Allocco added. “If they don’t unify quickly around a replacement front-runner, you can absolutely get a top-two scenario with [Republicans] Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco.”
Allocco concluded: “This race just became a huge math problem.”
